Taryn's Page

Taryn FitzGerald received a BFA in art from Carnegie Mellon University. She then worked as a graphic designer (Graphic Design Resume), while pursuing her own photographic projects. With a background in music as well, she has found a way to merge her various interests through the medium of video (Video Resume.) In 1994, she studied at Ecole Supérieure d'art Visuel in Geneva, Switzerland, and in 1996, received an MFA and the Paula Rhodes Memorial Award from the School of Visual Arts, where she now teaches.

My work explores the relationship between control and desire, as experienced through the murky veil of the individual unconscious.

Eating Between the Lines (10:05, 1996) A glimpse into the sublimation of a young woman's desire through food and texts. From dream state to full consciousness, the video moves within various layers of her unconscious, as she wakes up and eats breakfast.

In Your Quiet Little Way (10:00, 1996) An investigation into the nature of repression and its connection to compulsive behavior, as connected to the family. As the camera moves through a home, a sense of uncomfortable familiarity surrounds the viewer.
